Alzo Video

The ALZO Smoothy Radius and Linear Camera Slider is an excellent tool for interview and B-Roll video, adding talent-stationary camera motion; it is also very useful for ‘A’ camera in commercial product presentations. The slider has a 40 inch run and can replace time-consuming track and dolly for many shots. This slider easily converts from curved radius to linear sliding by simply changing the track attachment to the base beam. Constructed from a lightweight, yet rigid aluminum track that mounts to a base beam with thumb screws in either curved or straight while stainless steel nylon wrapped bearings assure an ultra-smooth action and very long life. The slider camera bed allows for 1/4 inch x 20 or 3/8 inch x 16 thread mounting of camera quick releases plates; with the exception of the basic model, a camera quick release is included. For best results, they recommend using a Pro video tripod with a load capacity over 5 pounds, like the ALZO Pro-Pod V. Another support option is to use 2 light stands screwed into the ends of the slider, which is the most stable slider mount. For the ultimate lightweight and rigid camera sliding, we recommend adding the ALZO Camera Slider Brace Support to a tripod. The slider can also be placed on a table or any flat surface by adding the ALZO Slider Table Leg Set accessory (see image); this is a stable solution, but height adjustment is more difficult. The load capacity for the Smoothy Slider is up to 3 pounds of camera weight. The center tripod mount includes 1/4 inch x 20 and 3/8 inch x 16 threaded mounting holes. In addition, the base beam ends include 1/4 inch x 20 and 3/8 inch x 16 threaded mounting holes on the bottom. These mounting holes allow for attaching the ALZO Camera Slider Brace Support.

Block Battery

Block Battery R48-miniNot many people realize that despite LED Lighting Manufacturers claims that their products work on battery power many see a drop in performance out of their lights since they need 48V which most batteries do not provide! Block Battery recently released their R48-Mini which is designed to boost the power out of standard batteries so you can power your LED fixture to full. This unit conveniently has three mounting options so you can attach it to a stand, the light, or if you own them, an HC-400 Block. Now you can get full power out of your LED panel fixtures that require a full 48V of power to work properly!

Brightline has made upgrading existing conference rooms a breeze with its LED Micro-T line. With low power consumption, these fixtures can be fed using the POE of a network switch allowing for an easier installation and or reconfiguring of office building floors. With accessories including control stations, the self-contained system has features not easily obtained previously.

Chauvet Professional

Chauvet Professional headed to NAB this year with their line of video walls, fixtures, and control for content creators.

They had their line of LED profile, fresnel, and wash lights, many with IP 65 ratings for outdoor use.

Chauvet’s Ovation E-260WW / E-260CW profile fixtures are powered by a single source LED that exceeds the output of a 750 W tungsten light source. This warm or cool white ERS-style fixture boasts extremely smooth dimming down to the very bottom of the curve as well as a flat and even field of light for superior gobo projection. Control options like selectable PWM, RDM, and selectable dimming curves round out this virtually silent ellipsoidal. Cineo has designed the ultimate creative lighting tool — the Quantum c80.

The Qc80 gives professionals the unique ability to independently control the dimming curve, white light, colored light, and saturation.  Stop worrying about color and light variance from one session to the next. The intuitive controls of Qc80 allow for predictable, repeatable results. Qc80’s phosphor-converted saturated color LEDs work with the phosphor recipes in the white LEDs to create a balanced, natural-looking spectrum.  Combining Cineo’s award-winning white-light quality with innovative saturated color technology, the Qc80delivers up to 50,000 lumens of beautiful, easily controllable, full-gamut light.

The Qc80 boasts a substantial 2’ x 4’ diffused illuminating surface, weighing less than 50 lbs., with a maximum power of 800 watts.

Creating beautiful light within an extended color gamut is only part of the story. Cineo has developed an intuitive control strategy that allows predictable, repeatable results, either using the graphical control panel or remotely with wired or built-in wireless CRMX control.

The strategy is simple: four controls or four DMX channels control the entire fixture in a single mode of operation:

MasterCineo’s Photo-Accurate Dimming maps the 0-100% dimming curve to actual camera stops for precise output control using the MASTER control locally or on the second DMX channel.

White – For color-accurate white light, choose the CCT as you would with any Cineo fixture, using the WHITE rotary control or the rst DMX channel.

Color – To optionally add saturated color, the COLOR control adjusts the hue, the color of which is displayed on the control panel or managed on the third DMX channel.

Blend – Controls the amount of saturated color to be added to the white light, from full white to fully saturated color.

With the Qc80, the same color shading can be achieved regardless of the CCT used for photography. For example, +2 Green added to 3200K CCTwill look the same as +2 Green at 5600K to the correctly white- balanced camera.

In addition to our proprietary phosphor-converted white light LEDs, we developed phosphor-converted saturated color LEDs. These work with the phosphor recipes in the white LEDs to create a balanced, natural-looking spectrum featuring Cineo’s deep-red color rendering technology. The saturated color LEDs use the exact same dies as the white LEDs, allowing all light-emitting elements of the Qc80 to carry identical thermal stability, and perform over time with identical differential aging. After years of service, we guarantee that our color stability remains consistent.

Fiilex has upgraded both fixtures, both include a swanky new OLED display to show precise CCT, hue (for Pro Plus), intensity, and DMX levels. They’ve  also made some physical improvements to include a longer yoke, accessory lock, and deeper spigot.

P360 Pro is the next-generation version of Fiilex’s flagship portable LED light. This 400W-equivalent fixture takes everything that made the original P360 great and brings it to the next level. The CCT range has been expanded (2800-6500K) and dimming now runs from 0-100%. The Pro maintains top-tier CRI (>93) at any setting.

Weighing under two pounds, the weather-resistant (IP-24) P360 Pro and Pro Plus are designed for travel, but it can also be easily integrated into DMX setups with its onboard DMX functionality.

Fiilex offers a wide array of accessories, ranging from magnetic fresnels and diffusers, to softboxes and larger fresnel attachments. With these light modifiers, the Pro Plus can be turned into a broad fill, a powerful spot, or anything in between.

F.J. Westcott

Westcott new product was the Solix LED. The light is a single head LED unit that measures at 5600k daylight. It offers a dimmable dial on the backside of the unit and with a low 60w draw; it allows you to use their Flex LED battery. The unique feature about the Solix is the fact that you can mount barn doors using the magnetic system for easy on and off control. Finally built into the Solix they have integrated a speed ring so that you can put on any standard soft box all the way up to a 7-foot Octobank. The ring allows you to rotate the box without removing the box from the unit.

Westcott’s “biggest” announcement at NAB 2017 was the new RGB-W Flex unit. The unit allows you access full visible color spectrum from their flexible LED mat. On top of this announcement, they also announce their new Westcott Pro dimmer and standard dimmer. The pro dimmer allows you to control the Flex mat wirelessly and also with DMX options. The dimmers are now constructed of aluminum instead of plastic. An Integrated Anton Bauer or V-lock mounts make powering the light with a battery much easier. Westcott has partnered up with Innovative Dimmers to create the new dimmers. The RGB-w mats are available in 1×1 and 1×2 sizes.  Don’t get too excited, because Westcott says it probably won’t be shipping until Q3 later this year.

Here’s a vid of it from NewsShooter.com

The BladeLight is a truly unique fixture in the market today.  The narrow linear array of high CRI LED’s allows the fixture to create a wide soft wrap around fill.  What makes it different from other softlights is the ability to use the barndoors to shutter the edges to create a clean cut like you would expect from a Fresnel.  The BladeLight also utilizes an adjustable lens system which allows it change quickly and easily from its 120° wide spread, down to 60° or even 20° for longer throw applications.  The BladeScreen uses a very narrow spectrum green LED to enhance the backdrop for ChromaKey applications.

Fluotec brought their A game to NAB Show this year with several new products! First up, is their new StarMaker LED panel. Billed as an IP65 Rated Color Tunable Production LED panel light, this unit is rugged and can withstand all that you can throw at it. Next up is their award winning Vegalux StudioLED 300 Fresnel! What makes this unit super unique it is one of the only units on the market that is not only color tunable, but also includes a motorized zoom feature controlled by DMX. Using only 300w of power this unit can match the equivalent of a 2k Incandescent fixture. This Fresnel should give you lots of control in your studio!

Central to their booth was the impressively diverse Stryder Fresnel. Featuring 200w of LED power, the Stryder can be tuned from a warm 2700 Kelvin to an overcast 6500 Kelvin, and its rotating focus barrel can be brought from a wide flood to a narrow spot. For a brighter, punchier source, the front fresnel can be removed entirely, allowing for a wide, unobstructed beam. The Stryder features the option for either a gold mount or v-mount battery system and a large screen for easy read-out.

Kino Flo

Kino Flo’s Select  20 and 30 LED DMX fixtures join the ranks of the company’s LED soft fixtures with not just bi-color capability, but adjustable full-color control.  In addition to the “white” mode on the Select 150 controller, there is also a “gel/hue” mode, and an “RGB” mode.  The “white” mode is adjustable from 2700k to 6500k and has green and magenta control to help match mixed source lighting situations.

The “gel/hue” mode includes presets such as blue & green screen, sodium vapor, mercury vapor and over 100 well-known lighting gels. In addition, there is also a fifth channel called Hue Angle and sixth channel, Saturation.  The second color menu provides individual RGB control. This menu works with apps with predetermined RGB presets or color wheels.  Kino Flo’s new Select LED’s also come with standard DMX and wireless DMX (Lumen Radio®), 24VDC input, and universal voltage input 100-240VAC (1.3 Amps at 120U). They also recently added new Snapbag Softbox and Snapgrid accessories.  Another feature is the lack of color shift on dimming.  Both of the Select models retain the standard accessories, such as choices of honeycomb, and mounting options.

K5600 continues to innovate within its highly popular line of compact HMI Luminaires, and this year is no exception.

Their top selling offer, the Joker-Bug 800 has inspired a new line of portable lighting -the Joker-Zoom 800 draws just over 10 amps while producing as much output as a quartz fixture requiring 5x the power. Utilizing a lens free design, the Joker-Zoom 800 has a faceted open-face style reflector and is focusable 15-55 degrees.

Do you want accessories? K5600 has them in spades. Meet the Kurve – A line of large parabolic reflectors available in three different diameters (3, 4.5, & 6 feet). Setup can be done in seconds and the Kurve is kitted with all the fittings required for an easy way to make great light

Kinotehnik brought 3 cool new compact LED fixtures to NAB this year.  The Practilite 600, 602, and 604 are all 80w bi-color Fresnel lens fixtures which can serve applications in the field, and small studio setups.

All three are made of durable CNC machined aluminum, with a 3.5” fresnel lens.  The 604 is capable of DMX controlled dimming and all share color temperature adjustment from 3000k to 6000k.  The 600 and 602 have onboard controls and share Bluetooth connectivity with any Apple IOS or Android smartphone.  The remote control app is available for free download, and can be used to control multiple fixtures at the same time.

The 600 is the most compact of the three, and has a fixed focal length beam that is perfect for a small snap-on softbox.  The 602 and 604 have onboard flood and spot control.  They can be either camera or stand mounted, and take either AC or battery power with available power supplies and adapters.  Output is equivalent to a 300w incandescent compact fresnel, with a CRI rating in the high 90’s.  All are available with durable, snap-on 4-leaf barndoors.  Mix and match 2 and 3 piece kits are also available with hard cases and lightweight reverse light stands.

LiteGear, Inc

LiteGear CINEMITTERBetter, Stronger, Brighter.  LiteGear has found a great niche with highly modular solutions and has improved them this year with brighter emitters, wider Kelvin range, hybrid power supplies (AC or battery with one unit), and locking connectors.

LiteGear officially unveiled the new CineMitter series of applied phosphor LEDs. Exclusive to LiteGear, these new emitters set the standard for cinematic, color-correct LED lighting. Efficient, and full spectrum, these LED chips offer state-of-the-art output with a 40% increase in brightness over VHO Pro. Another distinct feature of the CineMitter is the extended Kelvin range. LiteGear pushed the lower CCT to 2600 degrees Kelvin (K) allowing for candlelight or deep-tungsten output while increasing the CRI to a staggering 95+ — that’s nearly indistinguishable from traditional incandescent sources! On the cool side, the CCT was pushed up to 6000K to better balance for overcast sky or cool white fluorescents. This increase in CCT still achieves a CRI of 95+ and provides beautiful, full-spectrum daylight. CineMitter is now standard on LiteMat S2, LiteMat+ Plus, LiteTile — and coming soon to LiteRibbon.

LiteGear LiteTile+Perhaps the most anticipated though, is the LiteTile Plus – which, if you appreciate the small spaces you can get the LiteMat, you’ll really appreciate how little room the LiteTile takes up.  LiteTile is a flexible, foldable fabric that makes setting up a lightweight large soft source a snap.
