Dr. DMX has long been the go-to guy for all things DMX. His products are used industry wide for testing and stable reproduction of DMX Signals. But now we can also turn to the team at Doug Fleenor Design for all of our sACN & Artnet needs. New for this year is the DMX doohickey – the name is the only thing funny about it. This tiny device is designed to detect the address on channel 512 of a DMX universe. With hundreds of DMX universes available in sACN range people are beginning to identify them by parking channel 512 at the same value as the universe they are using. (universe #1 = channel 512 @1%) The DMX doohickey quickly identifies that DMX universe.
Preset 10 Ethernet is a new 10-button station for Snapshot Capture and Architectural Playback of up to four (4) universes of DMX. These universes are collected from the sACN stream via RJ-45 with support for POE switches. Multiple stations may operate on the same network. Also new for this year is the 8 Channel Ethernet to Analog Interface. This device will accept sACN or ArtNet protocols and convert them into 0-10V outputs for control of analog equipment and lighting. Another product that has made the jump from DMX to Ethernet-based protocols is the famous 1 Channel Relay Pack. This product is used to quickly control the power to simple devices such as fans, hazers, projectors, practicals, and non-DMX products.
The team at CAST Software has been working on Black Trax for 10 years and their efforts have really paid off. The new Black Trax server is loaded with features that can be used in every production environment. Black Trax uses motion capture cameras to detect light pulses from tiny infrared beacons. The Black Trax Server uses these pulses to calculate the exact location of the subject in a 3D environment. This information can then be transmitted to all kinds of external devices such as: moving lights, audio systems, Pan Tilt Zoom Cameras, gaming consoles, and media servers. The end result is the ability to seamlessly incorporate all of these products into one spectacular high tech performance.
disguise Media Server systems have been getting a lot of notice this year in the entertainment industry. With tours like Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, and The Rolling Stones it is hard for them to go unnoticed. However, media servers are no longer just for concerts and big events like the Grammy’s. disguise media servers are also being used in Broadcast, Fixed Installs, and Live Theatre. disguise has built a reputation that has quickly carried them to the top of the industry. This reputation is built on two things: Rock Solid Hardware and a Community of Users. All of disguise’s media servers offer 3D visualization and set up, stunning effects and robust programming features. The disguise product line is scalable from a single 4K output to as many as 16 outputs. And every media server is sold with formal training from disguise’s dedicated support team. The collaborative nature of the disguise organization is what draws users with new ideas to them. They work tirelessly to include existing technology and add new technology to their software every day. Also new for this year is OmniCal. Omnical is a system of proprietary cameras that allow end users to calibrate all of the projectors to their corresponding projection surfaces in mere moments instead of minutes or hours.
Robe introduced the T1 profile fixture this year at LDI. The new revolutionary MSL™ (Multi-Spectral Light) LED engine provides an output reaching 11,000 lumens. Using CMY color control and DataSwatch™ filters containing a selection of pre-programmed colors and a wide-ranging 2700K to 8000K CCT control, all variations of color are possible. In addition, the high CRI of > 93 provides natural skin tones. Dimming is achieved using a super smooth Robe 18-bit dimming system. Robe has included a plus and minus green channel and C-pulse special flicker-free management for all vision systems such as HD and UHD cameras to make it a natural choice for Broadcast Applications. All this combined with a crisp framing shutter system, full zoom range of 10° to 45°, two variable frosts, specially designed breakup and aerial gobos, as well as an animation wheel and prism make it an excellent fixture for all applications.
Titan Tube was specially designed for the Film, Broadcasting and Cinema industries. Optimized for an ultra-high TLCI, a very high CRI and peak brightness, colors as well as Hue, Saturation and Intensity can be set directly on the tube. The Titan Tube accepts both wireless and wired DMX via a special power/data combination cable. Each Titan Tube has 16 individually controllable pixels. LED emitters offer a range of Tunable White from 1,750K to 20,000K. Within that range, users will find Ultra High Color Rendering with a TLCI =96, CRI =96, CRI Re=90 from 3200K to 6500K. A display on the back provides access to DMX setup, colors, hue, saturation, and intensity control.

Mirage 400i – A VFX-oriented fixture that focuses on producing high-quality Hybrid and Blue/Green Screen light. It is a retrofit to existing Kino Flo® Image 80/85/87 fixtures in which a flat panel with an array of tungsten, daylight, green, and blue LEDs is affixed to an Image 80/85/87 housing using four thumb screws. The Mirage Hybrid output benefits from the addition of the blue and green emitters in that Planckian Hybrid output can be achieved, allowing the output to follow the Planckian curve from approximately 2600K to 11000K. Mirage is controlled by one of LiteGear’s most advanced dimming controls to date, and the entire Mirage system – assembled completely and left intact – fits perfectly into existing Image 80 cases.

New for Pro Intercom this year is the handy AD903 wireless interface adapter that they are partnered with Listen technologies to create. The adapter hooks into one transceiver and the power supply on the intercom system to make a wireless system. The AD903 has many functions for getting various levels of audio into an intercom circuit, or getting the intercom audio “traffic’ out to an amplifier or recorder. It is also useful as a 2-to-4 wire adaptor for connecting 4-wire communications into and out of a standard intercom circuit.
Both the input and the output are transformer isolated from whatever devices are connected. The wide range of level adjustments will accommodate almost any audio signal.
Dazian’s new product, Stretch Shapes which are constructed from IFR Trapeze® Plus fabric and can be reused with no puckering or bagging. They are machine washable, fade resistant, durable and easy to install. Ideal for Theatrical, Event, Retail and Commercial environments.
Their new Vector HD Tiles are multi-faceted, dimensional surfaces that create unique visual effects available in chrome and white. These innovative 3-dimensional tiles really “pop” when used with theatrical LED lighting. Velcro to one of their CD2 modular frames or glue to a wall.
ARRI has introduced their new lighting control app called Stellar. It is compatible with L-Series and SkyPanel fixtures and connects wirelessly through SkyLink. The user interface is intuitive and easy to use. The app uses RDM to automatically discover and address ARRI fixtures. You can import a light plot diagram, group fixtures, and store scenes. The app is $99.99 yearly and works with iPhones (5.5” and up) and IPads (9.7” and up) and IOS 11 and up.
Lightronics was back at LDI and debuted three new fixtures.
The FXLE17C4N RGBW Ellipsoidal Lighting Fixture is available In 19, 26, and 36 degree beam spreads (no 50) and has a 170w 4 in 1 Quad-Color RGBW, CREE array and the white is tuned to 6000K. The housing is high impact plastic and at 14.2 lbs, it is a fairly lightweight LED ellipsoidal. The fixture is compatible with lens tubes from “other manufacturers”.
The FXLE2032W 200 Watt warm white LED ellipsoidal lighting fixture is available In 19, 26, 36 and 50 degree beam spreads and has a COB 200w Warm White LED engine. Like other FXL fixtures, the housing is high impact plastic and is also 14.2 lbs. The fixture is compatible with lens tubes from “other manufacturers”. Both the above fixtures are only available in 3 pin DMX in/out.
The last fixture in the FXL line is the FXLF2032W1555 LED Fresnel. This LED Fresnel features a 15°-55° motorized zoom. It has 1- COB 200w, 3000-3200k LED. It is available in 3 pin or 5 pin dmx.
Baxter Controls, the creator of the Pocket Console, rolls out the new Best Boy 2. The Best Boy 2 that has all the same features of the Best Boy but is lighter, waterproof, and is $200 less than the original Best Boy.
The BB2 is similar to the Best Boy in that it has the Pocket Console enclosed in the plastic carrier. The box has been redesigned to allow the 9V battery to be accessed without needing to open the Pocket Console enclosure. The case also holds the power adapter to allow the console to be powered via 120VAC power.
Blizzard rolled out four new fixtures in their Willy Wonka-themed booth at LDI.
The N-Trance is a moving head fixture with a direct view ring of LEDs on the front edge to enhance the visual impact of the unit. N-Trance’s 90W white 7000k LED sports a narrow 2deg beam and the fixture’s LED Ring sports bling with 86pcs of direct view RGB LEDs with Full pixel mapping capabilities
The Super G 150 is a 150W 7500K color temp main beam with a 12deg projection angle. It has a 7 color + white color wheel, 1 static gobo wheel w/ 7 gobos, 1 rotating gobo wheel with space for 6 gobos, 3 facet prism, and can operate in auto and sound activated modes.
Blizzard also introduced the Red Stone line of fixtures. The 440 Profile is a framing CMY moving head with a 440W 7500K cool white LED engine, full CMY color mixing, and a linear CTO color correction. There is also a 7 color + open color wheel w/ half colors7 glass gobo + open. For accurate beam control, there are 8 blade framing shutters, Iris and for effects, there is a rotating prism plus frost filter.
To cut down on wires the 440 has built-in Wireless DMX , and wired DMX, RDM, Art-NET.
There was also the 240WZ Wash moving head with RGBW LEDs, a zoom range of 5deg – 70deg, rotating prism beam effects, and 5 dimming modes w/ 4 dimming curves.
Like the other Red Stone fixtures, it has wireless DMX and wired DMX, RDM, Art-NET.
Acquity’s Pathway Connectivity has expanded the Vignette architectural controller series. They’ve added a three-slider station to their modular options, and it has the same functionality, fits into a single gang box.
They offer the Vignette Clock for time based functions and Astrologic adjustments for sun up sunset – DIN Rail Mount – POE powered or external 24-48VDC – Configure with Pathscape.
Their VIA 16 is a larger version of their VIA-5 that has been on the market. It is a 16 port manageable switch Mounts on DIN Rail. It requires external DC voltage [20-50VDC] and provides 12 POE ports and 4 non-POE ports [10/100Mbit] 15W per port plus 2 sled slots for SFP Fiber modules [1000base LX or 1000Base SW]. Settable properties include Switch Name, Port Name, IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, VLAN configuration, Link speed, POE allocation, DHCP pool, IGMP filtering.
Keep an eye out for a VIA-8 in 2019 if you have smaller installations as we’re told that’s in the pipeline.

Cables for the Storm series are their PRO Cable line of 5 conductor cable with IP65 rated connectors and carry fixture power and DMX to each light. Cables are available in standard lengths of 2m and 5m and custom lengths are available.
Gantom also offers a T Connector that allows up to 72 Storm Z fixtures, 24 Storm DMX or 12 Storm form at the 24V input voltage.
For indoor applications, Gantom recommends their G8 Distribution box and Pro Cables. The G8 will distribute DMX and power to 8 fixtures and comes in a variety of options for hard wired connections or plug and play models.
Kino Flo Systems displayed their LED tubes specially designed for operation in 4Bank, Double and Single fixtures and for stage design lighting.
The new FreeStyle LED Tubes display white light and RGBWW via the color management system found in the FreeStyle 41, 31 and 21 LED portable
systems, the Diva-Lite LED video field production lights, and the Celeb 850, 450, 450Q and 250 premium studio soft lights.
Paired with a 4Bank fixture’s light intensifying reflector, the tube projects soft light forward at a 100° beam angle at about the same light levels you’d get from a 1,000W tungsten soft light.
Outside its fixture, a bare tube glows like a traditional Kino Flo lamp, with light radiating on all sides. The lightweight tubes can be taped to a set wall, customized to form arrays in soft boxes or hung as “ladders” of light for illuminating stage backdrops. A narrow aluminum rail built into each LED lamp expands the mounting options for special lighting designs.
They offer a wide range of light control features: White Light mode, with Green/Magenta selection; Cinema Gel mode, with 115 industry standard filter colors, and a full Hue & Saturation color system; RGB mode; and a Visual Effects mode, boasting easy to use flash and strobe programs such as simulated “Candle Light”, “TV Flicker”, “Police”, “Paparazzi” and more.
The new FreeStyle tubes are operated by solid-state drivers featuring built-in wireless DMX and standard DMX controls, 8-bit and 16-bit dimming, linear and square dimming, internal/external wireless antenna selection, and more.
Fiilex displayed it’s Q8 Travel, a 340W tunable LED Fresnel. It’s precisely designed 8” Fresnel lens produces a smooth light field at all beam angles (12-60°).
The Q8 Travel includes three other key features that address the needs of many film and video productions. First, the tunable CCT and hue enable the Q8’s output to blend seamlessly with existing lighting. Second, the robust construction ensures that the Q8 can withstand rough transportation and rigging conditions. Third, the intuitive LCD display and manual control knobs allow filmmakers to make quick adjustments on set.

Filex also displayed The Matrix II RGBW. This fixture brings full-color control to Fiilex’s Matrix line of soft-source LED punch lights. The Dense Matrix LEDs in the Matrix II RGBW boast multi-wavelength color groups.
The Matrix II RGBW fixture draws 340W of power and produces an output greater than a 1K tungsten soft light. This output is generated by the four Dense Matrix LED clusters that are set into a custom-designed reflecting chamber and enclosed by a layer of diffusion. With its four LED sources, the Matrix II supports additional optics and accessories that can easily reshape the fixture’s illumination. The fixture is compatible with light banks from Chimera as well as DoP Choice when using the speed ring accessory. It can also be used as a front-focused light with the optional Quad-Fresnel, which increases beam intensity by 3x.
The Matrix II is also available in an alternate Tunable White model. The Matrix II Tunable White and the RGBW both have an improved mechanical design, smoother dimming down to 0%, magenta/green hue adjustment, and tunable CCT (2800-6500K and 2800-10000K respectively).
The housing of each Matrix II RGBW fixture is constructed of high-grade aluminum along with ruggedized rubber at the impact points making them extremely hard-wearing and shock-resistant.

This year at LDI, OSRAM presented three new SharXS lamps which OSRAM is calling Brilliant, after its High CRI Lok-it! Power Series lamps of the same name. Like the Lok-it! lamps, the SharXS Brilliant have a super-high color rendering index of 92-94, making them some of the best SharXS lamps ever for television and live performances with accurate skin tones and vivid, true colors are required. The new SharXS Brilliant lamps are available in wattages of 1000W, 1200W, and 1500W.
BB&S introduced the Area 48 color this year at LDI this year. The Area 48 color uses 150 watts and 12,000-lumen output as well as delivers stunning saturated and tinted colors and clean white light in both ends of the spectrum with high CRI.
The Area 48 color is color tweaking with white LEDs ( bicolor ) and in addition to that, RGB has been added.
Area 48 color has an onboard touch screen for local control and of course, runs on DMX / RDM as well.
There is a full range of DOP choice softboxes, snap grids and diffusers available for the Area 48 color.

SoftPanels was at NAB showing their new approach to LED lighting.
What makes their soft-source LED fixtures different from others on the market is their built-in color meter and intelligent color management technology designed to provide color precision and smart control over the emitted light.
Each fixture undergoes a two-hour color temperature calibration process in the factory to +\- 80°K. By doing this the displayed color temperature matches the actual light output. Many LED lights do not match their color preset buttons, and they are often off by more than 1000°K.
Each fixture also has an integrated digital color meter, with proprietary Autocolor™ matching technology. This process can instantly read the current ambient color conditions, and then exactly color-balance their LED color output to match that of the scene’s ambient conditions for far more color consistency in a variety of studio and location applications and saving time correcting in post-production.
While not at NAB we wanted to include our friends at DSC labs. Last year after NAB they made a change to their printing substrate moving to the use of new AcuFlect 3 media.
AcuFlect 3 while less reflective than the original AcuFlect Glossy, still maintains the dynamic range and color saturation that have made the original charts legendary.
Why did they do this? After testing of a variety of different materials, customers reported back that setting up the charts was much easier under multiple different light sources, saving time and making the camera reference process go faster. As a bonus, the new AcuFlect 3 surface can be wiped down with a damp cloth and has the added benefit of being more Eco-friendly.

Backstage has added thirteen new carts to their extensive line of production and cinema carts. Some of these are modifications to their existing carts while some are able to be customized through options available.
In addition to the Skypanel 120 Cart (E-17), the Skypanel 60 Cart (E-18 Mini) and the Skypanel 360 Cart (E-19) are now available. These carts feature all-steel construction and house the Skypanel fixtures, cables and power supplies.
The Cable Cart(GE-02) and the Cable/Sand Bag Mini Cart (GE-02 Mini) both now have a foldable version available.
The Backstage Head Cart(E-02) and the Apple Box Cart(G-10) both now feature Plus versions with increased size and capacity, the Apple Cart Plus(G-28) and the Head Cart Plus (E-02 Plus).

High End Systems, recently acquired by ETC, had some their LED-powered fixtures on display within the Electronic Theatre Controls booth at NAB.

SolaFrame Theatre is a natural fit for designers that work in theatres and other venues where fixture noise is simply not acceptable.

Robe Lighting had a large range of their fixtures at NAB this year for broadcasters who not only need lighting for on-air personalities but for also ambient set and air effects interest.
For fixed fixtures, Robe’s ParFect line in its various flavors are a popular fixture because of their incredibly wide zoom range of 3.8°– 60°. Their PATT range of fixtures have become a must-have for visual interest on sets and tours worldwide.
Moving head fixtures have always been Robe’s forte, and Robe’s DL7S Profile is the first DL range fixture to receive a powerful new 800W version of the LED engine with seven colors for unprecedented smooth, stable and even color mixing and a very high CRI.
The Spiider and Tarrantula fixtures are superbright next generation of LED WashBeam luminaires. Spiider uses 18x 30 Watt and 1x 60 Watt LEDs and combining it with a very efficient 12.5:1 zoom optical system ranging from tight 4° Beam to wide 50° while the Tarrantula is powered by 36x 30W and 1x 60W high powered emitters providing a stunning 20,000 lumen output. The versatile optical system offers an adjustable beam angle, from a tight 4° spot to a super-wide 50° wash, of the highest quality light.
Based in Charlotte, NC, The Light Source has been creating innovative solutions for hanging and lighting theatres, studios, churches and other places where people gather.
Their line of LED lighting is made in-house and can illuminate most any space.
The exciting release for NAB 2018 though is their new MEGABATTEN product that combines power and data in a pipe you hang the fixtures on.
The patent-pending MEGABATTEN dispenses with the traditional connector strip square or rectangular electrical enclosures by placing all of the wirings inside the pipe. Fixtures and scenery may be located over the entire length of the MEGABATTEN, and even directly over unused outlets.
This is accomplished by milling pockets in the wall of extra strong schedule 80 aluminum pipe to recess the power and data receptacles inside the circumference of the pipe. 20-amp Edison receptacles are spaced every 16” with a 5 pin XLR receptacle right next to it for data.
The MEGABATTEN is ETL listed to the UL 1573 Stage and Studio standard as a connector strip. The MEGABATTEN is listed to support a load of 30 pounds per linear foot when supported on a maximum of 8-foot centers. Power and DMX are available anywhere a light is placed on the MEGABATTEN.
The product can also be special ordered to be bent on a radius for circular hanging positions with included power and data.
Celebrating 50 years of providing communication to all kinds of productions Clear Com had some neat new items at NAB this year.
The all-new FreeSpeak II IP Transceiver (IPT) based on Clear-Com’s new IP Platform solution allows FreeSpeak II wireless beltpacks to be addressed across a user’s LAN. Additional enhancements support a higher density of users per transceiver as well. Existing FreeSpeak II beltpacks may be upgraded to work with the IPT through a simple firmware update.
Transceivers are connected to an AES67 IP-router and to the Eclipse HX system fitted with Clear-Com’s E-IPA high density audio-and-intercom-over IP system card. Each E-IPA card—also native AES67 based– provides up to 64 ports of IP connections which effectively supports 64 IPTs. The IPT Transceiver can be powered from a PoE switch or local power source. Direct fiber connection is also available on each IPT.
Fluotech released their additions to the Vegalux motorized zoom fresnel line at NAB introducing the 200HP and 200UHP versions with 60 and 80% more light output than the original version. The entire line is available in both tungsten and daylight color temperatures.
Not to be overlooked, the affordable Auralux 100 is a manual version of their LED Fresnel providing good light output for those who are looking for value or do not require motorized zooms.
Also on display were the Cinelight Studio is Fluotech’s entry into the long throw soft LED panels on the market and of note, the new Starmaker weatherproof IP rated, bi-color panel.
The Rotolight Anova PRO 2 is making its North American debut at NABShow 2018. The LED is a pioneering continuous light and High-Speed Sync (HSS) flash that redefines the standard for professional studio and location lighting. The Anova PRO 2 is one of the brightest LED lights ever launched in its class, delivering 10,700 lux at three feet. The light also provides the best power to consumption ratio in the industry, and with a mere 72W consumption, reduces operating costs for TV studios, while providing unrivaled battery performance on location.
The Rotolight AEOS, now features a High-Speed Sync (HSS) Flash and continuous LED light that’s now integrated with the Elinchrom Skyport 2.4Ghz HHS wireless flash receiver. The addition of the wireless flash receiver eliminates the need for a standalone flash receiver and ensures rock-solid reliability and flexibility for controlling multiple off-camera lighting setups. It also enables users to wirelessly control the color temperature and brightness of every light in the setup, saving time on shoot. AEOS provides the ‘shoot what you see’ benefits of continuous light, and the flexibility of HSS flash (1/8000th sec.) with 200% flash output, whenever users need more power or to freeze action. Unlike traditional strobe, AEOS has no recycle time, which ensures users never miss a shot, making it the perfect light choice for today’s modern high-frame-rate-capable cameras. Skyport enables users to wirelessly control up to 10 lights, in four groups at up to 650ft with the new Rotolight HSS transmitter. This feature will also enable mixed light setups, for example with the AEOS as a key-light and the award-winning NEO 2 as a backlight, from a single transmitter.
Lumos continues to expand its LED lighting fixture line with both variable color and fully RGBW color changing capability. The Lumos Glow Panel 200C (1k tungsten Output)and 400C (2.5k tungsten output) is ideal for location, commercial and entertainment. Featuring a full range of white color temperature 2800k to 10,000k, all metal body, hybrid cooling system, flicker-free, stable dimming, standard DMX512/RDM, onboard useful 10 presets on a simple interface.
For those of you that looking for a white light only panel fixture, check out the brand new line of Lumos 200GT (30w), 300GT (50w), 500GT (120w) and 700GT (200w). The “F” series is available if fixed color 3200k or 5600k. The “MK” series is available in two separate adjustable color temperatures including 3200k-5600k or 2800k-6500k. All available with 40, 55, or 85-degree lenses. Ask your local Barbizon office about the battery mount (12-24v) and snap bag accessories. All fixtures feature a 95+ CRI and come with a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty.
Last year Mole Richardson debuted is new Mole LED Variable-Color Fresnel with the 6” Vari-Baby LED (250w). This year Mole Richardson expanded the line by adding the 8” Vari-Jr LED (350w), 10” Vari-Studio Junior (480w), the 14” Vari-Senior (900w) all the way up to the 20” to replace your 10k tungsten.
With a color temperature range of 2700k to 5600k, this Variable-Color series of fixtures features an onboard RGB color mixing display with the optics you come to expect from a Mole Richardson lighting fixtures. All fixtures come with Lumen Radio and Bluetooth wireless control capability. The standby draw is <.2 Amps Max. 30V DC making a 30v DC, Block Battery the perfect accessory for location shooting.

Cinestar is the newest addition to the Airstar family. It has been designed with versatility in mind. Cinestar is fully dimmable, with easy to use bicolor temperature controls. It features a low-profile body and is completely portable, making it the perfect lighting choice for studio, stage, and set applications.
Cinestar allows for fast set up (just 15 minutes), and even though it’s 5′ wide when inflated it is easily transportable because it compacts down into a small case and weighs around 26 pounds.
While other Airstar units like the Crystal have been used for area, event and sometimes on sets the Cinestar is the first content creation dedicated lighting balloon that uses Airstars flicker-free “Dynamic White” LED technology with a bi-color LED array with 2700K to 6500K with a high CRI of 96 that uses 850 watts.
Westcott’s widely popular Flex product has led to a new full-color version the incorporates RGBW chips and will also include the new Cine DMX Dimmer. These will have all the previous features including water resistance and are pliable and can be placed almost anywhere. This new product will be launching later this year (end Q3).
Kino Flo’s FreeStyle 41 LED unleashes your creative side by using a quick-release system to remove the LED panel from the plastic housing. The smaller form factor and lightweight LED panel combined with four corner bumpers add further rigging versatility. The LED panel also includes an additional mating plate so it can still be mounted on a stand. Also on display was the new line of full color LED tube replacements. These will work in conjunction with the new FreeStyle power supply.
Sachtler’s new tripod travels fast, from deadlines to wedding lines.
Flowtech 75 is a versatile, lightweight tripod that is easier and faster to deploy and adjust than just about any other tripod. It has a 75mm ball, two-stage carbon fiber legs with quick release brakes, a mid-level spreader, rubber feet and a capacity of 44 lb. and is only 10.4 lbs.
The quick release brakes allow the legs to be deployed simultaneously and can quickly adjust to the height that you need. The hinge locks allow the Flowtech 75 to be deployed as high as 5 ft. and low as 10″ when used without a spreader. It’s specifically designed to allow the tripod to comfortably rest on the camera operator’s shoulder when collapsed.
The Flowtech 75 is branded as Sachtler and Vinten and works with heads and accessories of each product family.
Today’s cine and video equipment have spread the range of voltage and power needs like never before. And the loads for high powered LED’s and HMI’s have had no battery solutions until now. Block Battery products provide battery solutions for an ever-evolving portable world.
The 2F1 Battery, which can change voltages or mounting options and comes in either the Nickel Metal Hydride or Lithium Ion and is the most versatile battery available. From a V-Lock, to a three-stud camera battery to a 28v power source for an LED light, any power needs under 200 watts, regardless of the output voltage.
The SLi-600, 14 and 28 VDC Dual or Switchable Block, is a 550 Watt-hour block designed cinematic camera applications. The compact SLi-600 weighs in at only 16 lbs. and is available in a series “D” or “S,” to be compatible with your power needs. Charge time is 4 hours with 1500 to 2000 recharge cycles.
The SLi-600 uses the “safe lithium chemistry” of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFeP04). It has a modular design which allows the 10 battery blocks to be easily removed and replaced, making transporting the SLi-600 much safer and easier. Replacement cells and be replaced easily as well making service much simpler.
Each SLi Series block contains an active balancing circuit that will monitor and balance the individual cells with every charge cycle.
Though Frezzi didn’t new releases at NAB this year, there are two recently released fixtures that generate a lot of interest
The Frezzi SunLight is a daylight balanced replacement for the 575w HMI that only draws 220w at full power. Without optical filters, the focusing beam goes from a 20-degree spot to a full wide flood. It will also dim from 0 – 100% without any color shift. It will run on AC power or camera batteries for 45 minutes. The SunLight only weighs 6.5 lbs. and is available in kit form.
The Frezzi ProLight is a camera-top LED light in daylight CCT that has a very low power draw of 8w.
It includes barndoors, CTO filter and a diffusion filter mounted on the front. It is all aluminum and is fully weatherproof. It has a fully articulating arm that attaches to the camera. The ProLight can be powered by your camera battery or a hot-shoe. As with the SunLight, The ProLight is fully dimmable with no color shift.
If that’s not enough, it even has a USB port to charge your phone or other devices!!
Dedolight brought their range of studio and field LED fixtures to NAB this year. Their focusing fixtures include the stand or camera mounted Turbo series in tungsten, daylight or bicolor, the DLED2, and the DLED4. If you need LED panel lights, they have the Felloni panel and the DLEDRama in different sizes and configurations. The larger fixtures are DMX controlled and are at home in the studio or in the field. Most of their fixtures are available in multi-head kits with all the accessories you could possibly need.
Creating a buzz at the show was Litegear’s LiteBox, the perfect accessory for your new LiteTile+ Plus.This modular system is designed so that you can mount your LiteTile to a lightweight rigid frame and then have the option of diffusing the LEDs at 1 inch (2.5 cm) or 6 inches (15 cm) away. LiteBox comes with the same three, familiar diffusers as LiteMat — so you can always integrate them together — and opaque fabric sides to eliminate spill light when used in the 6-inch deep version.For rigging, LiteBox is surrounded by 1/4”-20 PEM® nuts and comes with an optional 5/8” baby pin adapter or grip head mounts.
Litegear also brought several pieces of gear to NAB this year that won’t be released until this summer, but brought a lot of interest to their booth.
The LiteMat Plus 8 is the largest and newest iteration of the popular LiteMat line. It’s a 4’ x 4’ bi-color LED light source that only draws 400 watts. It can be powered by battery or AC and is controllable via DMX. It has front mount accessories available, like the Snapgrid, and it can be hung or velcroed to a wall, or mounted on a stand using its center ball mount.
They are also making an LED retrofit for the KinoFlo Image 80, 85, 87, and Flathead fluorescent fixtures. Using the existing frame and yoke, the light engine installs over the existing reflector using 4 screws. Also included is a new power supply/controller where you can choose tungsten, daylight, visual effects green or visual effects blue. Perfect as a large soft source or chromakey light.
The LiteMat Spectrum brings camera compliant RGBW to the game to the LiteMat line. Color balancing available from 2000k to 11,000K. It has full spectrum color available, and color can be desaturated using the white light that you have color balanced to. The controller allows you to select the type of camera you are shooting with to ensure compliance. It also is controllable with onboard wireless DMX.
New control and fixture options were on hand for NAB 2018 in the ETC booth.
For fixtures, ETC’s ColorSource Pearl is the newest array for our ColorSource® line of fixtures. Available for the Linear, PAR, and Spot, Pearl is a variable, white-light option that can be tuned to output white light anywhere between 2700K and 6500K. Also shown for the first time from the Irideon® line of architectural fixtures, the WLZ or, Wash Light Zoom fixture, is no exception. This feature-rich design is ideal for museums, lobbies, and retail environments.
Similar to the other fixtures in the Irideon family, the WLZ is available in a wide variety of color temperatures ranging from 3000 K to 5000 K, and several mounting variations; DataTrack, portable with c-clamp, canopy, and special request baby pin. This fixture is ideal for low ceiling applications or in spaces with drop ceilings where a small, powerful, yet agile lighting option is needed.
The most innovative feature of the WLZ is the built-in rotating zoom adjustment at the rear of the fixture housing. This enables beam angle adjustment within an impressive range of 9-78 degrees. The zoom position markers on the fixture make fixture-to-fixture referencing quick and easy.
The Irideon WLZ now also comes with ETC’s updated fixture warranty of five years for the fixture and 10 years for the LEDs. Shipping of the Irideon WLZ will begin in May.

With some of the industry’s most compact and highest energy density batteries, PAG is a leader in portable power systems. PAG offers both Gold-mount and V-mount Li-Ion batteries that are stackable for increased runtime through higher Watt-hours. On-board battery controls indicate capacity, load, and remaining runtime for the total of all batteries which are linked together. When stacking batteries, current is not transferred from one battery to another but instead is passed through a central bus bar. This allows batteries to be hot swapped, or additional batteries to be simply added to the back of the stack.
Additionally, the PL16+ four position charger allows you to stack and fast charge up to 16 batteries at a time in a compact form factor. Using the internal Intelligent Parallel Charging software, the most discharged batteries will be given priority until all batteries reach a similar level of charge.
In the field, the PAGlink Micro Charger is the ideal solution for up to four stacked batteries in a travel size charger. Available in both V-mount and Gold Mount, the Micro charger can replenish your batteries from either AC input or DC supply such as a vehicle battery or USB charger.
Neutrik will soon be releasing a new line of the popular powerCon, etherCon, and XLR series of connectors. The True Outdoor Protection line gives both IP65 protection and UV resistance through newly styled ruggedized sealed connectors. Neutrik has gone above and beyond by engineering them to be compliant to the IEC 61076-2-103, IEC 60320, UL 1977, UL 498, and UL50E standards. Designed for harsh environments, this system of inlet and outlet connectors will be ideal for outdoor applications such as outdoor PA systems, LED Screens, and lighting systems.
This year Brightline has announced that they are adding Lumen Radio wireless DMX to all of their SeriesONE LED fixtures. They are also developing a wireless interface box to control the original SeriesONE fluorescent fixtures. Integrating this wireless control will enable the SeriesONE line to easily be controlled from any LumenRadio transmitter or controller, allowing for quick setups and less cable.
Featured this year was the CreamSource Micro. The Creamsource Micro is less than half the size of the Creamsource Mini+, at just 8.66” x 8.7” x 3.94” (W x H x D), and weighing in at approximately 5.5 lbs. It features a rugged and waterproof design, with an IP65 rating which means it can be used in all weather. Light output is the same excellent quality as the rest of the Creamsource range, with color temperature adjustable from 2700 to 6500K and a CRI/TLCI of greater than 90. Drawing only 80W, it rivals the light output and punch typical of some 200W HMI Luminaires. Unlike most bi-color fixtures, the Micro maintains constant power output across the whole CCT range, so users always get the unit’s full potential, and there is no reason to have to choose between a bi-color or daylight system. Another key innovation of the Micro is its wide 10-32V operating voltage, allowing users to power the fixture from a single 90WH battery, or directly from a car.
